Hello bloggers and bloggettes, 

I’d like to introduce myself as the newest (part-time) member of the Betty Team! My name is Sam Will and I’m working as an intern for Betty Bot this summer. 

I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing team. There is an energy that comes with every morning huddle that makes you just want to, well, do work! I leave the meetings with the motivation to be the best team member I can be. I worked with Dray and Thomas at Tasio last summer, and that was a great introduction to what it’s like to work at a start-up. Last summer felt more like a guided learning experience. This summer is completely different. With Betty growing so quickly, I’m treated like a real member of the team – with work that others depend on.  

Working with an AI language model is interesting. I’ve used tools like ChatGPT in the past, but never understood exactly how they worked. With the Betty team, I’m getting a look behind the curtain – learning how LLMs function and how they can be improved. It’s cool to get to be a part of a team working with generative AI because AI is the future, and as Dewey from Malcolm In The Middle would say, “The future is now!” 

There’s a lot that I hope to achieve through this internship. Beyond the direct experience with AI technology, I get to see what it’s like to work for a start-up. My long-term goal is to start a company like this on my own, so this type of experience – seeing how things are built – is invaluable. I am also meeting some really cool people that I hope to work with again in the future! 

It’s only been about two weeks, but it’s been an amazing experience so far. I am so happy to be a part of this team and excited for the rest of the summer! And to see Betty grow!
