Sam’s Summer Series: Part 2

Sam's Summer Series: Part 2

Hello again bloggers and bloggettes,

I last posted a blog at the beginning of my summer internship with Betty. Excited and ready to learn, I started as the newest addition to the team. Over the past 2 months, I’ve seen two new team members join the company and watched Betty grow so much. They grow up so fast :,) .

My time here has been a whirlwind of coding, learning, and, dare I say, a touch of startup chaos. As a student studying computer science at UVM and someone whose main interest in this field is AI, this opportunity has been nothing short of a dream.

The main projects I’ve been tasked with developing this summer are tools centered around AI, aimed at streamlining tasks and making our internal operations more efficient and user-friendly. There’s something uniquely exhilarating about seeing your code not only come to life but also make everyday tasks smoother and smarter. Working on this reminded me daily that we are on the cutting edge of AI technology. We’re not just using AI to solve problems; we’re teaching it to think and learn on its own. I imagine it’s something like watching your baby take its first steps—except this baby understands natural language processing and can assist with data analytics!

The dynamic environment of a startup like Betty offers a rare glimpse into the multifaceted world of technology and business development. Being in a small team has taught me the importance of versatility, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving. The experience has been instrumental in shaping my professional aspirations and has solidified my desire to perhaps one day venture into the entrepreneurial world myself.

As the summer comes to a close, I am filled with a mix of gratitude and anticipation for these last few weeks as an intern with Betty. I am grateful for the invaluable experiences, the mentorship, and the relationships that were forged and built upon here, and I am anticipating what lies ahead for both me and Betty. Here’s to more coding, continuous learning, and a few more spirited morning huddles to keep that creative spark alive.

Cheers!
Sam Will
